Onlife Trophy 2023 finals, how it went

Onlife Trophy Football Tournament 2023 was launched on 16th of August 2023. The management of 5Guys Books and Sportings Shop Nyahuka invited teams all over Bundibugyo to participate.

This second edition of the tournament attracted a total of 14 teams. Seven were new entries while seven participated in the first edition.  This is the only private tournament in the district that attracts teams from many sub counties. 

They included Mamba Boys, Mafu Mafu Fc from Busaru S/C. Holy Unity Fc Busunga, Crown Stars Kabutabule from Bubandi S/C. Also Kanyamwerima UPDF Fc and Team ya Bantu also known as Kighboghbou Fc participated. 

The following are the teams that reached the quarter finals; Green Spurs Fc Tokwe S/C, Humya United Fc Bubukwanga S/C, Boston Fc Bundingoma S/C. And then Busunga Hotspurs, Picfare Boys Kaghema T/C, Busunga Cranes Academy, Nyahuka United Fc, Young Blood Fc Busaru S/C.  

Nyakakindo Young Blood Fc was crowned the Champions of the Onlife Trophy 2023 at Bundingoma primary school Pitch. Young Blood therefore defended the Trophy after scoring two goals in the last seven minutes including extra time of the game. It was on Friday 19/01/2024. 

Young Blood Fc played against Picfare Boys Kaghema. The game ended at 2:1 in favor of Young Blood. The wolves of Kaghema booked their finals post after winning Boston Fc in the semifinals. The game ended in penalties. See how Picfare Boys celebrated their finals qualification.

The Onlife Trophy Football Tournament’s scope is to promote local talent in sports by bringing youths together in a neutral and corruption-free football competition organized by fellow youths. 

Sponsored by 5Guys Shop Management, the tournament looks focused on attaining its objective beside the challenges. The second edition was conducted under the theme and slogan 4Life.

The management of 5Guys Shop and Web official sponsors of the Tournament thanked all the four teams that turned up for the final day. Our gratitude also was extended to the Chairperson LC3 Bundingoma Sub county.  

On an abrupt notice the LC3 Hon. Ntura graced the function. He was accompanied by a number of his working team. In his speech he thanked 5Guys management for putting up such a tournament that is uniting youths all over the district. 

Kujo the Finest a sports analyst, radio presenter at UBC (VOB) and a partner at 5Guys graced the event. Kujo encouraged teams to take seriously what they are doing. He encouraged players to train on a daily basis. 

The Finest sports presenter in the district stated that Football in Bundibugyo is growing positively. And those who feel that football is not their favorite and talent should leave it. So that only committed players and teams remain.

Boston Fc Bundingoma hopes increase in bid for finals at home

Boston Fc Bundingoma and Picfare Boys set to hook horns again. This will take place to complete the Onlife Trophy 2023 semifinals extra time.

The above decision was made on the ground that all the teams will observe time.  Given that it will happen the same day of the finals this Friday 19/01/2024.

The Bundingoma based team hopes have increased in bid for finals at home. Onlife Trophy Staff in their tours in Bundingoma have noticed that the team is warming hard towards this goal.

Kandole Fobiano’s Boston Fc has played several friendly games in preparation for the fixture against Picfare Boys. Equally important, the team is still unbeaten in this edition of the tournament.

Picfare Boys from Kaghema reached the finals of the first edition. The Kaghema wolves lost it in penalties against Young Blood Fc in January 2023.

Meanwhile the 5Guys Management and Onlife Trophy Staff are doing final touches in the preparation of their finals. They are ready to give out more than 18 medals and the cash awards exceed UGX 700,000.

Two of the teams reached Finals in Onlife Trophy 2022. That is to say the champions (OT22) Nyakakindo Young Blood Fc and the runners up Picfare Boys.

It is worth noting that the Onlife Trophy 2023 registered 14 teams for this second edition. These included 7 new teams while 7 teams took part in the first edition.

Participants in the 2023 edition included; Green Spurs Fc, Humya United, Kanyamwerima Updf Fc, Kigbhogbhou Fc, Mamba Boys, Mafu-Mafu Fc, Nyahuka United, Crown stars Kabutabule, Holy Unity Fc, Busunga Cranes Academy.

And then the Semifinalists Boston Fc Bundingoma, Busunga Hotspurs, Picfare Boys and Nyakakindo Young Blood Fc.

Young Blood Fc

Nyakakindo Young Blood is a local team based in Busaru Sub county. It was crowned the Champions of the first edition of the Onlife Trophy on 08th Jan 2023.

The team is headed by Sunday Michael and he is assisted by Gafa Nicholas. Meanwhile the team Captain is called Ngambeki Richard.

Besides that, the team managed to reach the semifinals of this second edition by putting the following performance:

  • Young Blood vs Mafu-Mafu FT 2:0
  • Young Blood Vs Mamba Boys FT: 4:0
  • Young Blood Vs Nyahuka United (Young blood never turned up and points were awarded to Nyahuka United)

Picfare Boys

The Wolves from Kaghema Town Council managed to reach the finals of the first edition. They lost the game through penalties at their home ground Kisumba Primary School playground.

At that time they were coached by Brendan Faustine who was ranked the best manager of that edition.

Busunga Hotspurs

Busunga Hotspurs is a team from Busunga Town council. The team is coached by Awazi Ramos, equally important, he is assisted by Shabani and Bashir Katelegha.

Busunga Hotspurs reached the knockout stages of the first edition. It was kicked out by their own neighbors, that is to say Holy Unity Fc at Bundingoma playground on 18/12/2022.

Boston Fc Bundingoma

This is the only team that is unbeaten in the Onlife Trophy 2023 edition so far. The team is coached and Managed by Kandole Fobiono. Sunday Julius is their team captain. Boston Fc is found in Bundingoma sub county.

In the first edition this team never performed well. Its journey ended in group stages in 2022. Nevertheless, that has not been a setback for Fobiano’s team. The team has won so far five games played against four teams.

Boston Fc played all its group stage games away. This was due to a failed collaboration between the team and Onlife Trophy.

This team will host other Onlife Trophy 2023 semifinalists at their home ground that is to say Bundingoma Primary Pitch.

Nyakakindo Young Blood Fc Champions Onlife Trophy 2022

Nyakakindo Young Blood Fc Penalty Masters has made history by becoming the First Champions of the Onlife Trophy.  This new and generally competitive Football Tournament is organized by the 5Guys Books and Sportings Shop Nyahuka town council Bundibugyo Uganda.

The Final match took place at Kisuba Primary school in Kaghema Town council on 8th January 2023. It featured Kaghema based Picfare Boys and Young Blood Fc from Nyakakindo Busaru Sub county.

The two teams played a goalless Full time of 90 minutes and 2 minutes as added Time by the game officials that included referees Gerald, Mutegheki and Chris.

Thereafter they proceeded to the penalties. It was the first time for Picfare Boys to play them in this Tournament. On the other hand, for Young Blood Fc it was the third Time. See Full results of Onlife Trophy up to Finals by just a click here

On this point without boiling hot water, Nyakakindo Young Blood Fc managed to win the penalties 4:2. It is worth calling them Masters of Penalties. We can base this on the fact that they won Nyahuka Juniors in Quarters, won Holy Unity Fc in Semis. Made history by becoming the first ever Champions on the Onlife Trophy Football Tournament still on the same.

Speeches – Summary

The event was graced by officials from Bundibugyo District Football Association (BDFA). The body was represented by both their Treasury Mr. Robert and their Secretary.

In his speech Mr Robert thanked 5Guys Books and Sportings management for having organised such a great and well organised tournament. He greatly thanked Nyakakindo Young Blood Fc for becoming the first Champions of Onlife Trophy. Among other guests that were present (to mention just a few) including the Hon. Minister for Culture in the Obudhigiya Bwa Bwamba (OBB).

The Manager of 5Guys Books and Sportings Shop Mr. Kyalimpa Ronard thanked all the people who came to watch and support their teams. Equally important he thanked the people of Kaghema Town council for keeping peace. Again he applauded Picfare Boys Fc for fighting for the win till the last penalty.

Besides that, Ronard further thanked BDFA for their support and work. He appreciated all, especially the coordinators who worked hard and left for many times their duties to see this first season successful.

Finally, the chairperson of the organizing committee Mr Monday Cloves commonly known as Carragher, assured the public that the Onlife Trophy football tournament is annual. That at the end of this year season 2023 will kick off.

Mr. Carragher invited other teams that never participated to get ready for the coming season. The Masters of ceremony and live match commentary was done by Mr Nicholas aka Mc Cage and Mc Jacob.

Journey of the Semifinalists Onlife Trophy 2022

Firstly, Out of the Four qualified Onlife Trophy teams, only one has never lost any game so far. We are talking about Holy Unity Fc-the Busunga town Council based Football club managed by Busobozi Alex.

We will handle this simple journey of each team based on matches played and results. Equally important, the short details about the teams are obtained from forms originally filled. Here we go alphabetically

Busu Planet Fc

Busu Planet is a Football Club based in Busu Parish in Bundingoma Sub county. The team is Coached by Kisembo Yowasi. The assistant coach is called Godfrey Muhumuza and captained by Akiimu.

Planet Fc was slotted for group C2 that included Holy Unity Fc and Boston Fc. It qualified for the quarter finals knockout thanks to a last minute goal by Ali against Boston Fc in their last group Match.

The team gunned three points that enabled it to book the best loser position in group C2 and group B. These groups had only three teams each.

Holy Unity Fc

Holy Unity Fc is located in Busunga Town council managed Busobozi Alex. He is assisted by Birinduwa Timothy. The Team captain of Holy Unity is Aliganyira Brian.

This is the only Onlife Trophy 2022 team that has not lost any game till semifinals. As if that was not enough it has just conceded only one goal by penalty after a full time goal-less quarter final against Busunga Hotspurs at Bundingoma playground.

What is more important to note is that it topped Onlife Trophy Group C2 with Four points and declined hopes of the Bundingoma Based Boston Fc in a draw.

Picfare Boys Fc is based in Kaghema Town Council and Brendan Faustine is the Head Coach. Brendan is assisted by Tasman. Businge Seezi is the Team Captain. Meanwhile, they registered for Onlife Trophy 2022 through the Online forms.

The Kaghema town council boys are among the teams that have played many games in this tournament. Despite that, they managed to qualify from Group A in the third and last position.

Nyakakindo Young Blood Fc is also abbreviated N.Y.B.F.C, its based in Nyakakindo Busaru Sub Country in Bundibugyo District. Young blood Fc is coached by Ahebwa Johnson and he is assisted by Baguma Julius. The Team Captain is Ngambeki Richard.

This team was also in Group A where teams played multiple games. This team has a strong fan base in Busaru and it is a very promising team.
