The Special one; AS Roma in the second final in two seasons

José Mourihno the Special One takes AS Roma in two consecutive European Finals. The Roman Football Club managed to eliminate Bundesliga based Bayern Leverkusen.

The Special one secured another final for Rome after winning the first ever Europa Conference League in 2022.  This consequently came after a goalless draw in the second leg of their semi-final tie on the night of 18th/05/2023.

Edoardo Bove’s goal gave the Italian side a 1-0 win in the first leg, and in the meantime that was enough to take them through. Bove is a young Italian player born in Rome and aged 18.

Roma therefore progressed to face Sevilla in the final on 31 May in Budapest Hungary. On the other hand, Spanish Sevilla secured a win in extra time against Turin based and Italian giant  Juventus.

The Special one – Manager of History

The relatively new Manager (since 2021) has changed the Roman club history.  Not only by winning the Conference league trophy last season.  But also by taking the club in two consecutive European finals in two seasons after 31 years.

In addition, citation from BBC Sports via Sky Sports reports JosĂ© words:

“My concern isn’t marking my place in the Roma history books,”
“It’s helping these kids [players] to grow and achieve important things”.
“It’s also helping the Roma fans who have given me so much since day one. It’s an immense joy to get to another final.”

Furthermore, this is the sixth European final for the Portuguese manager. He is the only coach who has managed to win four different UEFA Trophies with four different Clubs. He is looking at his sixth UEFA trophy.

Meanwhile the Italian Serie A has taken another twist. Four different teams have won the Scudetto in four years. This came after Juventus won the Italian top most competition for 9 consecutive times.

Football lovers noticed how Italian Clubs have been competitive on European football nights. In summary, two Serie A teams reached the Champions league semifinals. Three managed to reach the finals. Inter Milan in the Champions League and Fiorentina in the Conference league.  And then AS Rome in Europa league. 

Although it is worth mentioning that Rome’s performance is not stable.  Because of un-avoidable injuries and having few players. Paolo Dybala never played though he was on the bench. Of course, all will be known in the coming day of May and June if an Italian Club will take home a European Trophy.

Who is Who; Premier Championship Sunday

All football Lovers await the premier league last Matchday scheduled at 16.00 UK Time. It’s  Sunday 22th of May, which is 6 pm East African Time. With a one point difference, it can be noted that Liverpool lost only twice while City lost only thrice in their 37 games this season.

Its like a final between Liverpool and Manchester City, JĂĽrgen Klopp versus Josep Guardiola alias Pep. The two coaches have shown themselves incredible and have entertained fans this season because of their consistency in good results.

On the so-called championship Sunday, it will be Liverpool against Wolverhampton Wanderers, and Manchester City versus Aston Villa. Both teams play in front of their  home fans.

It can be noted that both have only drawn once in their last 5 premier games while City won their last 4 games. For Liverpool, just needs a win but City must either draw or  lose. Only we can see who is who after both the referees of the two key games will blow the final whistle. All teams will go to remark their last game of the season on same date and time.

The results can only be decided by the eleven players each Manager will headline one hour before the games start. If not the case that the substitutes might come-in to change what will be already noted down and confirmed by VAR. This is Premier League, a must watch day for the soccer lovers.

On the same Championship Sunday, the friends of the Manchester United fan base; the Gunners will be in pitch. Arsenal will be working hard to secure a champions league place.  This holds water in case Tottenham doesn’t do the best in the field. It’s  also a premier show here!

On the bottom of the Premier League table we will see Who is who as Burnley and Leeds work for their own salvation fate. That is not to drop to Championship on Championship Sunday. Unfortunately one of the two has to leave the top English Competition, together with Norwich and Watford.

Else where, in the Italian Serie A, we will see the same. It is between AC Milan and Inter Milan with a two points margin. Both will play their last Games on the same Sunday evening at 7 pm East African Time. Though the Italians have Saturday and Sunday as last Matchday of the season.
